Cerec One Day Crowns Q&A

What are CEREC one-day crowns?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that fits over your damaged tooth to protect and restore its shape and size. Crowns are necessary to cover and protect chipped, cracked, broken, or misshapen teeth, but they typically take two separate visits and at least two weeks to create and place.

CEREC ceramic crowns use digital CAD/CAM design software and a milling machine to create your custom-made crown on-site in one visit.

How are CEREC crowns different from traditional crowns?

During the traditional crown process, your dentist removes a small portion of the enamel from your tooth to make room for your new crown. They then take impressions of your mouth using a goopy material to create a mold.

Creating a crown from a physical mold takes at least two weeks, during which time you’ll wear a temporary crown to protect your exposed tooth. When you return to the office, your dentist removes the temporary placement and cements your custom-made crown in place.

CEREC crowns are different because they take advantage of advanced dental technology to fit you for your new crown within hours instead of weeks.

Rather than using messy, uncomfortable impressions, your dentist takes digital impressions with an intraoral scanner. These impressions are then uploaded into the CEREC CAD/CAM design software to design the perfect ceramic crown for your tooth.

SmileOne Dentistry also has a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) machine to help create your personalized treatment plan.

Once the design is ready, an on-site milling machine creates your custom-made crown in the same visit.

What are the benefits of CEREC crowns?

CEREC crowns are ideal for those who don’t have the time for two separate appointments. Because they only take one visit, you never have to deal with the weeks-long waiting period that comes with traditional crowns.

A CEREC crown may be the right option for you if you have a sensitive gag reflex and don’t respond well to the putty-like material that dentists use in traditional molds.

CEREC crowns are strong, durable, and take a fraction of the time of traditional crowns. To learn more, call SmileOne Dentistry or book a visit online today.
